Benidorm - we knew it would be fun... but we were not prepared for beautiful little streets lined with Tapas bars and clean sandy beaches filled with friendly Spaniards! Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Madge, but we came pretty close a couple of times!
We love The hit ITV comedy, Benidorm! It is filmed at the Hotel Sol Pelicanos-Ocas which is located just a few streets back from the lovely Levante beach. Suprisingly, you don't have to go too far to find the 24hr watering holes and slap-up breakfasts... Dave and I and Mark and Chris went in search of the real Benidorm - the Bars, the beaches and the Brits! You will be delighted to hear that we found them all! I will never forget the view of the sun kissed skyscrapers as we drove down the hill into the centre of Benidorm. A thousand towers of fun stuck to the shore line like sticks in the sand, some modern, some from the 70's, all crammed with happy holiday makers with the same similar interests! Sun, sea, sand and shenanigans!
We stayed at the Hotel Rocamar, a comfortable 3 *** family run establishment hidden away in the old town. I would not hesitate in recommending this place to any of our friends, it is the prefect place to hideaway and a great base for exploring the fun-shine Costas de España!!
Our days went a little like this:
Tuesday 5th - Fly from Gatwick to Alicante. Hire a car and drive to Benidorm. Check-in to Hotel and prepare for a little exploring. A quick drink as the sun sets, some Tapas in the old town and back to the hotel.
Wed 6th - A tasty breakfast at the hotel then out to explore. The sun is bright, the sky blue and the Med is looking inviting! We swim, sun bathe and take a stroll - very relaxing. In the eve we head to the Brit-bit and brave the bars... the legendary Sticky Vicky is on form too!
Thur 7th - Breakfast and off out again, this time we head up the coast to Calpe. A beautiful bay and spectacular rock!, we swim and enjoy the sun. Back to Benidorm for a bite to eat and a stroll along the shore - wonderful.
Fri 8th - Early rise to breakfast. Pack and drive back to Alicante. Fly back to the UK and enjoy a very bumpy landing at Southend.
