>WINTER WHITE-OUT IN LONDON

Snowy London - we awake to a winter wonderland! Slippy pavements, rubbish snowmen and travel delays galore! Yay, it's snowing in London and we love it :-) 

Snow hits the UK big time. We head out to enjoy the winter wonderland in Greenwich Park. The kids are out in force with their sledges and the slopes of the park are awash with wipe outs and whiplash! I always enjoy coming face-to-face with the freaky-tastic snow-folk, rubbish snowmen are a joy and we found some beauties during our stroll! More snow is forecast for tomorrow... the wellies are ready. Bring it on!

The Storytellers get spooky. Lock the door, light the candles... It's time for ghost stories!!!

Halloween hit Kensington in style this year as the Storytellers got messy and let off steam. Dark corners, pies made of body parts, cobwebs and burning flesh... Thank you to the team for a wonderful eve of spooking! My silly pepper shown above!

The RHS Chelsea Flower show - It's the world's greatest flower show - and it's blooming lovely!


This annual frenzy of all things floral pops up in Chelsea every spring. The 11 acre sight is home to the many show gardens and for five days in May it attracts over 150,000 visitors.

We were amazed to see so many different styles of planting and new varieties of eye popping plants. Alliums stole the show and warthogs seemed very popular with the sculptors amongst the exhibitor's - strange! The images above and below show our 'pick of the crop'.

Amongst the independent exhibitors we found many gems! Quist was a real find. They produce beautiful bespoke works of outdoor art that use water as an added dynamic. Glass, metal and nature working together in perfect harmony. Another find was Natural Driftwood Sculptures, this Bournemouth based collective fashion gorgeous natural sculptures from flotsam and beach found natural resources. Finally, Hamish Mackie got best in (my) show with his visceral studies of big cats, wild boar and birds in flight.

The award winning Carnaby Christmas decorations take on a psychedelic theme this year to launch Carnaby’s 50th Anniversary in 2010; a year long celebration of the sixties, the decade in which Carnaby became an iconic fashion destination.

Carnaby is known for amazing Christmas decorations, and this year is no exception. The twelve streets of Carnaby are filled with fifteen, six metre high inflatable decorations declaring 60’s festive messages of Love, Joy, Hope and Peace, along with four, six metre high inflatable hot pink reindeers, and surrounded by brightly coloured suspended Christmas trees and sparkling lights. ...Famous for its spectacular Christmas displays, Carnaby Street has been transformed into a super-sized winter wonderland!!!

The twelve streets of Carnaby have never looked more surreal!... Festive shoppers and ultra hip stores have literally been swamped by 13 sub-zero, mega-fun snowmen and thousands of sparkling snowflakes... bring-it-on!

Paul Dart, designer from James Glancy Designs who have created the Carnaby Christmas Decorations says “The inspiration for this year’s decorations came from the childhood fantasy of a white Christmas and the delight in creating snowmen from the first fall of snow. By filling Carnaby with thousands of snowflakes I want to remind people of the magic and excitement of snow falling and demonstrate how dramatically snow can change our day to day experience of our surroundings.” Some of the better images from the web are shown below ...ho-ho-ho!

...A quick post showing what we did with two strips of old lights, a tin of olives, heaps of fir cones and a carrot!

We had a laugh making these cheeky lil' olive penguins! They are so easy to put together and are sure to go down a treat at any social soiree! Go get some pitted black olives, cream cheese, a carrot and a hand full of cocktail sticks... Tasty!

Our fab Norwegian Spruce really scrubbed up well... we threw on a couple of sets of lights, some glittery baubles, a few fake Robins - and hey-presto... instant 'Alpine Ski Lodge chic' - in Greenwich! (well, nearly!) ...Cool!

...Food, FOOD, Glorious food! (plus a little drinky or two!)... And a chance to witness Heston Blumenthal, James Martin and Nigella Lawson in action. Tasty!

We have just enjoyed a very interesting few hours at this years BBC Good Food Show... Managed to do a bit of tasting and sampled some rather nice plonk too! The show featured stalls from an enormous variety of exhibitors selling their wares from London and the rest of the UK as well as some international producers and manufacturers.

...You can literally eat and drink your way around the world. It’s the perfect place to get all your shopping done in one location, and pick up some top bargains and gifts. The Farmers' Market was a particular hit and had a fine selection of exhibitors. Big juicy 'bangers', the finest organic meats and all sorts of fruity treats kept our taste buds busy. We also perused the kitchenware and handy gadgets demonstrations - some very interesting products this year! - These KIN knives were sensational!, very sharp, very beautiful and very expensive!

...Chillies, Chillies and even more CHILLIES! Seeing as it's turned a bit nippy outside, we decided to turn up the temperature a little and splash out on these Chili-tastic treats! We purchased some delicious hand-made chocolate from the South Devon Chili Farm, the tangy orange and chili variety was particularly splendid! - And a pot of 'sizzling' chili marmalade from the producers at Water Splash Lane Pickles and Preserves - wonderfully warm and with just the right amount of kick, this stunning relish will compliment our Boxing Day cold meats and bubble'n'squeak beautifully!... (better hide it now so we have some left...)

...All-in-all a very good show, not quite as big as last year, but still well worth the trek over to West London.

French designer Philippe Starck has designed his sixth store for publisher Taschen, this time in London. A true book lovers heaven!

Hooray!... TASCHEN opened its new London store on the 6th of October, (store pics below). Located on the newly developed Duke of York Square, just off the Kings Road, right next to the new Saatchi Gallery, the store stocks the entire range of TASCHEN books covering art, photography, architecture, film, lifestyle, travel, pop culture and aphrodesia. And like all other TASCHEN stores, the space has been conceived by the world famous French designer Philippe Starck, with a ground floor at street level and a gallery space in the basement. The London store follows the huge success of TASCHEN’s five stores around the world, in Paris, Cologne, New York, Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

I have long admired TASCHEN's art and reference books. Over the past 5 years I have been collecting the wonderful 'ICONS' series. These A5 Full colour reference books are crammed full of images and information - the titles are so diverse and cover all subjects from vintage Tiki to the most recent 'must see' web sites. I have been on the TASCHEN mailing list for a few years now and have enjoyed drooling over the many fantastic limited and highly prized artists' editions. These books are works of art in their own right. They are over sized, very limited, very heavy and very expensive! The recent Jeff Koons title was limited to 100 numbered copies, each signed by Koons and accompanied by an original signed artwork. ...You will now have to splash out an amazing £6000.00 for the pleasure... phew!

The delicious Brassica Olaracea, a tasty treat for both the eyes and the stomach!, Vs. the very talented and oooh-sooo-clever Giuseppe Arcrimboldo.

As Summer becomes a distant memory and Autumn slowly takes over, our ornamental Kale has really come to life. Planted back in September, this beauty is certainly adding a welcome splash of colour! ...As spectacular as it is now, the heart of our kale will become even more vibrant and showy as the days get shorter and colder. Hurraagghh!

...Whilst thinking about decorative veg, (like you do), I couldn't stop myself from searching for images created by the 15th century Italian painter, Giuseppe Arcrimboldo. Famous for his wonderful portraits constructed from painted representations of fruits, vegetables, fish, insects... and just about anything else he could lay his hands on. We have seen several examples of Arcrimboldo's surreal compositions in Galleries around Europe. Surely the time is right for a major retrospective sometime soon?!? Fingers crossed and all that!
