> SOUTHBANK SKATEPARK FAREWELL

Southbank, London

The Southbank Skatepark - the iconic skatepark and tourist curiosity is under threat... the bland global brands are preparing to move in...

After over 40 years of heelflips, laser flips, nose slides and tail stalls... the world famous Southbank skatepark is to close. The global bland brands are ready to move in and replace the graffiti sprayed concrete with comfy leather and shabby chic chill out zones. A sad day indeed.

I know the kids will find another place to spray and play, but hey!, this is a place of legends. The creative street artists will find new walls, but the ones they leave behind must be worth millions...

The planning committee has announced plans to "refurbish" the area and move in high-rent retail units, shunting the skaters from their graffiti-splattered bunker to a new council-built spot beneath nearby Hungerford Bridge.
