>HOLLYWOOD COSTUME

The V&A, London
28 December 2012

Hollywood Costume - A ground-breaking exhibition that includes over 100 of the most iconic and unforgettable film characters from a century of Hollywood film making, 1912–2012. Priceless memories and beautifully staged... just go!

"Costume designers are storytellers, historians, social commentators and anthropologists. Movies are about people, and costume design plays a pivotal role in bringing these people to life. 'Hollywood Costume' illuminates the costume designer’s process in the creation of character from script to screen including the changing social and technological context in which they have worked over the last century".

The V&A certainly know what they are up to! This has to be one of the most imaginatively staged exhibitions that I have ever seen. Mini projectors bring the black costumed mannequins to life with slow-mo film sequences of the actual characters faces. The minimal black space is also a perfect stage for the beautiful creations.

Enjoying this amazing collection of costumes is just like taking a stroll down memory lane. Where else would you be able to see Charlie Chaplin's baggy suite, Austin Powers' flamboyant party wear, Captain Jack Sparrow's pirate get up or 'that' iconic gingham dress worn by Judy Garland?

The wonderful finale!

I strongly recommend that you pre-book your ticket and get yourself over to Kensington immediately!
