>LUCIAN FREUD - PORTRAITS

The National Portrait Gallery, London

Lucian Freud - 130 works including all the show stoppers and a few surprises too!

Lucian Freud was one of the most important and influential artists of his generation. Paintings of people were central to his work and this major exhibition, spanning over seventy years, is the first to focus on his portraiture.

What a privilege to see so many of Freud's portraits together. You get a feeling for how his execution and attitude towards painting has changed over the years. Early works are neat and wide eyed, the later studies growing in size and complexity. Bodies become meat, not as abstract as Bacon, but close... Honest, uncompromising and unique.
