The Royal Borough of Greenwich - The Queen has bestowed Royal Borough status upon the London Borough of Greenwich. We braved the snowy conditions to join in the celebrations.
The honour has been conferred to recognise the close links between Greenwich and royalty since the Middle Ages. Henry the VIII and Mary I were both born in Greenwich, and many of the celebrations were held within the beautiful baroque surroundings of the Royal Navel College. This was once the site of the original Palace of Placentia, Henry's home before the court moved up river to Richmond.
Heavy snow the night before didn't stop the wonderful parade and fireworks on Sunday the 5Th of Feb. Emergency Exit Arts created a visual feast for the crowds. Local School kids had made lanterns and they walked amongst huge illuminated characters from Greenwich's rich history. Great fun!
