Extravagant performance festival that showcases the very best
in contemporary alfresco entertainment. It's eccentric, eclectic
- and it's FREE!

As open air feasts of street theatre go, The Greenwich and Docklands International Festival is pretty much the main event. It's the biggest free festival of its kind in the capital, and our little piece of south-east London offers a spectacular stage for the four-day riot of out door theatrics. "It's really important to go with the grain of the sites that you're in and make them look as extraordinary as possible," says Bradley Hemming, the artistic director of the festival.

This years theme is water and it marks the launch of the first of four festivals inspired by the elements. My essential list of events to catch include: 'Fous de Bassin' performed by Ilotopie - an aquatic extravaganza taking place on Millwall outer dock. 'Water Music' - a multimedia show at the National Maritime Museum to mark the 250th anniversary of Handel's death. And finally, 'Pi-Leau' performed by Closeact - a multi-sensual bedazzlement for the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich. ...Can't wait!
