3 new portraits by the star of photo-reality
This spectacular portrait of Nobel prize-winning scientist Sir Paul Nurse (above), was especially commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. It is the largest painting in such a realistic style ever to be acquired by the Gallery! Portraits of tattoo artist Zoe Windle and Formula 1 driver Jenson Button are also on display. All 3 studies relate to Brook's fascination with morality: Sir Paul and his work in the field of cancer research, Miss Windle's endurance of pain as her skin is decorated and Button's participation in his choice of dangerous sport!
These portraits are huge! You need to stand well back to fully appreciate their complexity and realism. Get up close to enjoy every hair, skin pore and imperfection!
Jason Brooks was born in Rotherham in 1968. He studied at Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Art And Design 1988-91 and Chelsea College of Art 1991-92. His photo-realistic portraits are produced using the airbrush and can take months to finish.
The National Portrait Gallery is one of our favorite London Galleries. We are really looking forward to visiting the consistently brilliant BP Portrait awards exhibition - 12 June to 14 September 08... watch this space for review!
