Fashionable Parisian society showing off at the theatre!
Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s La Loge (The Theatre Box), is one of the masterpieces of Impressionism and a highlight of The Courtauld Gallery’s collection! This fine exhibition brings together similar studies and material depicting Parisian society enjoying 'watching', and indeed 'being watched' from the Theatre Box. Sumptuous fabrics and the finest jewels are on show as the beautiful people of Paris show off, theatre glasses at the ready!
The Courthauld gallery, housed in the elegant surroundings of Somerset House, has a beautiful and varied permanent collection. Spread over 3 floors, it takes you on a journey from Gothic and early Renaissance to modernism via Impressionism and Fauvism. Botticelli, Bruegel, van Gogh, Degas, Toulouse-Lautec and Kandinsky are all present. The Galleries are also opulent, airy and beautifully hung.
One of London's finest smaller Galleries and a real treat to explore!
