23rd - 29th December 2015
Up North - We pack the car with gifts and warm clothes and head north for the festive season
It's that time of year again!... the time to take a break from work and enjoy quality time with friends and family. This year it's our turn to leave the Island and visit Dave's family in Rotherham.
Our visit went a little like this:
Wednesday 23rd December - We enjoy breakfast on the 7:15 Ferry to Southampton. We arrive just after 8:15 and are ready to start the long drive up to Rotherham. The weather is perfect for touring and en-route we stop off at Clumber Park near Worksop in Nottinghamshire. We have a coffee break first and then explore the grounds as the sun starts to set. We continue on our way and arrive with Dave's Dads early evening.
Thursday 24th - Friday 25th - We do a bit of baking and wrap those final gifts, ready for the festive frenzy. Kay and Nigel host a great day on the 25th. We are also joined by John and Jean and Jean and Peter.
Saturday 26th - Dave and I manage to make a break from all things festive and head to the Peek District. The drive over to Castleton is spectacular, the overcast weather does not dampen our spirits! We park up, don our wellies and go explore. The Hope Valley is breathtaking, we walk up towards Speedwell Cavern, how could we pass up an opportunity to take a underground boat journey in a flooded lead mine!?!- It's a very exhilarating ride!
Sunday 27th - Time to say goodbye to the family and start the next leg of our adventure. We head North West up to Leeds and en-route stop off at the Yorshire Sculpture Park. This is our second visit to this important and well visited art space. Next up we head to Leeds to stay with Josie and Lee, where we also catch up with our chums Dave and Becky, who are also staying. We enjoy a lovely meal and a few glasses o' wine before bed.
Monday 28th - Early morning departure to start our journey back South. Today we are visiting Lis, Simon and Family before staying the night with Cate, George and Family in Oxfordshire. Great to catch up with more friends before heading home.
Tuesday 29th - An early-ish start... we have a good drive to Southampton and manage to grab a slice of retail therapy before boarding the 12:30 ferry back to our dear little Isle. It's been a fantastic break! ;-)
