Tate Modern - The Cathedral of modern art. One of the places that we miss the most since our relocation to the Isle... Time to immerse ourselves!
Tate Modern is one of those places that always feels so familiar... no matter how long the time between our visits, it always seems like we are just popping in... like visiting a good friend who always shares their best, most interesting stories, a friend who always keeps the good biscuits, just for you!
Today we enjoyed:
Marlene Dumas - the image as Burden. A hugely enjoyable and absorbing collection of portrait works that blew us away. Big, full on faces and bodies. Watery and milky eyed... oozing personality and never laboured. A intense experience, up close and personal. Brilliant!
Marlene Dumas is a South African artist who now resides in Amsterdam. She is one of Holland’s most prolific artists. She creates abstract figurative works inspired by personal memories and a diverse array of printed matter including Polaroid photographs, newspaper and magazine cuttings, letters and Flemish paintings. Her previous subjects have spanned newborn babies, models, strippers and figures from popular culture, both alive and dead. Predominantly, she works in oil on canvas and ink on paper.
