Ghost Forest - Trafalgar Square's controversial new installation designed to inspire and provoke debate about the future of the world’s rain forests.
Ghost Forest is an incredibly moving large scale art piece by Angela Palmer. Working closely with the Ghanaian rain forest logging authorities, Palmer acquired the ten huge tree stumps to star in her once-in-a-lifetime cityscape installation. These beautiful skeletal forms are on show from the 17th to the 22nd of Nov. After this time the massive remains will travel to Copenhagen to provide an arresting symbol for the UN conference on climate change from December 7th to the 18th, involving 11,000 delegates from 192 countries. (...Not really sure if the carbon foot print of this project can truly be offset by the projects desire to inspire, provoke and grab headlines?..?....?)
...You can also see Angela's related works at a free exhibition at the Wellcome Collection where 'Breathing In' - the result of a two-year project on the physical effects of climate change - is on display from 20th October to 22nd November.
