Fishermen with lobster pots, Sheringham, Norfolk

Ooooh - we do love to be beside the seaside. Oh we do love to be beside the sea...!

A really fascinating exhibition that brings together photographs, posters and seaside memorabilia, creatively staged in the NMM'S smaller temporary exhibition space.

The images on show are arranged geographically and focus on the English and Welsh seaside. Most were produced by Frances Frith (1822-98), a pioneering early photographer, who founded his own company to take and sell photographic views. Frith and his photographers travelled around Britain, capturing many coastal scenes which were sold as picture postcards. This selection really captures the essence of both working life and early tourism along the British coast... and not muffin-top in sight!

The National maritime Museum is a real treasure trove of nautical wonders! Do make time to visit this family-friendly attraction... you will be very glad you did!
