“a kind of acupuncture of the landscape, but also acupuncture of people’s dreamworld”. Anthony Gormley
Another Place is a spectacular installation on Crosby Beach that consists of 100 cast-iron figures, moulded from Gormley's own body in the style that has become synonymous with his work. They are vague in detail and rusty, punctured with several plug holes where iron was poured in the casting process, they are strong and very powerful...
...Picture this... A wet Tuesday morning in the outskirts of Liverpool, running from the car as you search for a break in the sand dunes... all of a sudden you stop. Stop dead in your tracks... Figures, figures everywhere. You have found 'Another Place'...
The ghostly life-size Human forms have been dotted along three kilometres of the Crosby shore, sparse in some areas and getting more congregated as they reach the sea. They have a sense of serenity and thoughtfulness, as they stare out to the horizon, all facing in the same direction and in the same pose, they appear as though they’re partaking in some sort of ancient ritual... (or a mass walk-out from Liverpool!)
Previously this work has been shown at Cuxhaven in Germany, Stavanger in Norway, De Panne in Belgium and its next stop - is none other than New York! WOW!
