70 minutes of wonderful visual theatre!
Performed on a stage flooded with water, Vula (Fijian for ‘moon’) combines beautiful illusion with traditional song and dance to create a captivating piece of Pacific Island visual theatre. Vula explores the sensual and spiritual relationship between Pacific Island women and the sea – a space where the worlds of the natural, mythological and everyday coexist.
Since its formulation in 2002, New Zealand based Pacific theatre company 'The Conch' has enjoyed worldwide success. We eagerly await their next production!
We saw this show in 'the pit', a very intimate space deep in the belly of the Barbican. Very atmospheric and perfect for smaller, more intense performances. Make sure you leave enough time before your show to find this space... follow the signs carefully!
