Greenwich Theatre started life 150 years ago as the 'Rose and Crown Music Hall'. In 1871 it became the 'Crowders Music Hall', famous for a fruity mix of Burlesque and Ballet. Then followed a era of make-overs and re-namings including such delights as; 'The Temple of Varieties', 'The Parthenon of Varieties' and the 'Greenwich Hippodrome Picture Palace'. in 1924 a Second World War bomb literally brought the house down and the Theatre was sadly closed and remained empty for many years!
The Greenwich Theatre rose from the ashes on the 21st of October 1969, and enjoyed many years of activity. After a short period of closure in the late 90's, the Theatre bounced back to life and re-opened in 1999 under the watchful eye of new Director Hilary Strong!... Three cheers for Greenwich Theatre... Hip-hip......
